Overview

Moorfields Eye Hospital is an Internationally renowned teaching Hospital and perhaps one of the most famous Eye Hospitals in the world, with an unprecedented reputation for excellence in clinical management and research of ocular disease. Moorfields has been providing eye care for over 200 years. Likewise, Great Ormond Street Hospital is known internationally, as providing worldclass treatment for diseases affecting children, since 1852. Both have a convenient central London location.

Mr Brookes has been a consultant surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital since 2004. Since 2012, he has also provided a specialist glaucoma clinic at Great Ormond Street Hospital for the treatment of children with glaucoma.

Since 2011, he has been the director of the glaucoma service at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Mr Brookes completed his basic medical training at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School (University of London) in 1993, after being awarded a B.Sc.(Hons) degree in clinical science in 1992. He started his ophthalmic training in 1994 at Kingston Hospital, after working in neurosurgery and accident and emergency medicine. His was senior ophthalmology registrar at Moorfields Eye Hospital and completed a fellowship in adult and paediatric glaucoma at Moorfields, with Professor Sir Peng Khaw.

Surgical Procedures

All children's surgery are carried out under general anaesthetic in the operating theatre at Moorfields Eye Hospital, unless more intensive anaesthetic requirements are needed, when the surgery is carried out at Great Ormond Street. Adult cases are carried out as either general anaesthetic, or local anaesthetic, depending on patient preference. Most cases are carried out as day case procedures.
